MARINA DI TORREGRANDE, MAY 2022:
KITEBOARDING YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
THE “FORMULA KITE YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP”.
PROTAGONIST IN THE GULF OF ORISTANO
Oristano and Sardinia will once again host a great Kiteboarding World Championship.
From 16 to 22 May 2022 the Marina di Torre Grande will host the young champions of the “Formula Kite Youth World Championship”. After the great success of the “Formula Kite World Championship” that took place in October 2021, the Gulf of Oristano will host the strongest athletes of the Under 21, 17 and 15 categories and also on this occasion the format used will be the same as that provided by the rules in the waters of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The organisational machine that bears the signature of Asd Eolo Beach Sports and that carries out the great World Kite Championships on the west coast, is working to ensure another great international event, a great sporting spectacle dedicated to young people that will take place next spring.
In October 2021 Torre Grande was the destination of the big family of world kiteboarding, 138 athletes from 33 different nations: from nearby France, Germany and Spain via Chile to New Zealand. The Formula Kite World Championship saw the Frenchman Theo De Ramecourt win among the men and the American Daniela Moroz among the women.
Forecasts for the Youth 2022 edition promise great attendance and a great sporting spectacle.
FROM ORISTANO TO PARIS 2024, ONCE AGAIN.
Italy and Sardinia continue to be the undisputed protagonists of the path that will lead Kiteboarding to make its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The stated aim of this collaboration between the International Kiteboarding Association and the Open Water Challenge organisation is to make Oristano, Sardinia and Italy the setting for kiteboarding a fundamental cornerstone in the programme of the four-year Olympic period, capable of contributing to writing a truly important page in the history of this discipline.
The strong support of the Italian Sailing Federation and the International Kiteboarding Association is renewed, and the CONI a great collaboration that makes solid the road traced for over 10 years and that leads ASD Eolo Beach Sports to build the great show on the water.
Sebastiano Cau, president of ASD Eolo Beach Sports. “For 28 years, our association has been promoting sea and beach sports.
The return of the great champions of kiteboarding to Torre Grande, the stage of the World Championship in Eolo, makes us honoured and proud.

Eddy Piana. Organiser Formula Kite Youth World Championship.
“The great work done by the entire organisational team of the 2021 World Championship has led to the confirmation of this other very important event of which I am extremely proud. Strength, stubbornness and madness are part of our DNA as organisers of our association asd Eolo Beach Sports.
We are certain that we can contribute to the tourist and economic development of our territory and Sardinia in general, it will be another great challenge that we want to share with you.”
Mirco Babini President of the International Kiteboarding Federation IKA and President of CKWI (National Class of Kiteboarding and Wingfoil).
“The success achieved in 2021 has created excellent feedback at international level, it came from the opportunity to be able to assign the World Youth Championship next May in Torregrande, once again the Eolo association will not disappoint and will show its logistical, organizational and sporting skills to the whole world with a participation from many nations, with all the young champions of the future U15 and 17 and the under 21 who are now at the pinnacle of the Olympic category. It will be yet another success for Oristano, Sardinia and Italy, which show that they are leaders in this sport.”
Sergio Cantagalli, sports director Formula Kite Youth World Championship.
“It is another great opportunity to enhance our territory in an international key, not only for its weather and sea conditions so favourable to the performance of these sports, or for the undoubted beauty of the area and the strong characters of our traditions, but also the opportunity to demonstrate to the world the high quality standard achieved in the organisation of these international events, thus consolidating the Gulf of Oristano as an undisputed gym for water-board-sports activities in a global key. At Torregrande 2022 we will focus on young people, forging valuable athletes and future champions for Paris 2024.”
Corrado Fara, Regional President Federvela.
“The Italian Sailing Federation of Sardinia (3rd Zone) is proud to host an event of such importance, and I would like to congratulate the organising club Eolo Beach Sports, which is not new to international events of this importance, hosting athletes from many countries with a huge impact on the territory from the point of view of image and induced activities. Once again, the combination of sport and tourism will be confirmed as essential.
From a technical point of view, the event will make it possible to make important assessments in a speciality that will be included in the next Olympics in Paris. I hope that events of this importance will help to increase the interest of our Sardinian athletes, too. Sardinia and the favourable sea weather conditions are the natural gym for this kind of speciality”.
Bruno Perra, Regional President of C.O.N.I. “I am happy and proud that such high level events are organised in Sardinia, and if we are talking about a World Youth Championship my happiness doubles because in this way we give our youngsters the opportunity to experience international competitions at home. Our young people have the opportunity to discover a passion, cultivate it, have more motivation and more incentive to practice the discipline of kiteboarding. In Torre Grande there will be the best athletes in the world.
I would like to thank the organisers for the effort they have put into this in the past and in the months to come. An event of this magnitude gives lustre to Sardinia, there will be many positive aspects that the 2022 Formula Kite Youth World Championship will bring to Sardinia.”
